(Disclaimer) The focus of the KARTA research component is to familiarize folks with the on-farm research process: from project inception, to completion and then to presentation.

By understanding (through the actual completion of a project) the problems, pitfalls and challenges, a producer has a much better understanding of how to conduct on-farm research in a scientifically valid manner so that decisions can actually result.

As research projects are specifically geared to individual farm and management types, one should be careful about extrapolating any results to their own operations. Producer driven on-farm research will never have the same scientific scrutiny applied that University research does; and nor should it, as the goal is to improve decision making at the farm level and NOT to provide recommendations for a wider audience.
